Frequently asked questions
Do I need to contact Vauxhall City Farm before visiting?
No, there’s no need to book if you’re visiting on your own, with family or in a group of fewer than 10 people. Just come along during our opening hours!
Entry is free, although donations are always welcome and help us care for our animals and keep the farm open for everyone.
If you’re visiting with a group of 10 or more, or organising a school or nursery visit, you’ll need to book in advance.
How do I book a visit for a school, nursery or group of 10 or more?
We’d love to welcome your group to the farm!
All schools, nurseries and groups of 10 or more need to book in advance, as we’re a small farm and want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable visit.
Schools and nurseries can contact our Education Team at education@vauxhallcityfarm.org. For other group visits, please get in touch before your planned visit.
Do animal experiences and pony riding need to be booked in advance?
Yes, our Animal Meet & Greet experiences must be booked in advance.
To arrange your visit, please call us on 020 7582 4204. Our farmyard team will help you choose an available date and time. Even if you’ve already purchased a voucher, you’ll still need to make a booking.
We no longer offer horse riding lessons as there are no horses at Vauxhall City Farm! That might change in the future and we’ll let you know if it does.
How do I book a birthday party, mobile farm visit or room hire?
Planning something special? We’d love to help!
We offer children’s birthday parties, mobile farm visits that bring our animals to you, and rooms for meetings, celebrations and events.
You can find details and booking forms on our Birthday Parties, Mobile Farms and Room Hire pages.
For birthday parties and room hire, email info@vauxhallcityfarm.org. For mobile farm bookings, email farmyard@vauxhallcityfarm.org.
How can I apply to volunteer at Vauxhall City Farm?
Our wonderful volunteers help keep the farm running, and we’re always grateful for an extra pair of hands.
From caring for our animals and welcoming visitors to supporting our events and activities, there are lots of ways to get involved.
Our regular volunteering and work experience opportunities are only for people aged 16 and over. Opportunities are open or closed depending on our capacity, you can see whether we have space by looking online here and complete the application form to register your interest. If you find it closed, please keep checking back as more opportunities will come up.
Do you have a Young Farmers programme?
Yes we do! It’s a paid programme held every Saturday morning from 9.00am to 11.30am for six weeks during term time. It offers young people opportunities to learn about animals, gardening and life on the farm.
There are two age groups: Young Farmers (aged 8 to 12) and Teen Farmers (aged 13 to 16). It’s £72 per child for 6 weeks and must be paid in advance. Places go quick, so please email the Education Team to register your interest
Check Young Farmers for more details and apply
Does Vauxhall City Farm offer Year 10 work experience placements?
Our current work experience placements are open to people aged 16 and over, so unfortunately we’re unable to offer placements to most Year 10 pupils.
If you’re 16 or older, work experience is a fantastic way to discover what goes into caring for our animals and running a busy city farm.
Places are popular, so we recommend applying early. You’ll also need to make sure your tetanus vaccination is up to date before applying.
Can Vauxhall City Farm take in unwanted pets or rescued animals?
Unfortunately, we’re unable to take in unwanted pets or rescued animals.
Although we love animals of all shapes and sizes, we’re not an animal rescue or rehoming centre. As a small charity, we don’t have the space or resources to care for additional animals.
If you need to find a new home for a pet, please contact a reputable animal rescue or rehoming organisation in your area. Please don’t bring unwanted animals to the farm or leave them at our gates.
Thank you for understanding and helping to keep animals safe.
How can I change or cancel an existing booking?
We understand that plans sometimes change!
If you need to change or cancel a booking, please contact the team who arranged it as soon as possible, or reply to your original booking confirmation.
Remember to include your name, booking date and the activity or experience you’ve booked so we can find your details.
Changes, cancellations and refunds depend on the terms of your booking, and we’ll let you know what options are available.

Do activities change during hot weather or extreme conditions?
During periods of very hot or extreme weather, some activities may be adapted, postponed, or cancelled to protect the wellbeing of our animals.
This is most likely when temperatures reach around 28°C or higher, or if an official weather warning is in place.
If your visit or booking is affected, we will aim to contact you at least 48 hours in advance and offer an alternative where possible.
