Welcome to our first garden update
Hello, I’m Jess, the Community Gardener at Vauxhall City Farm, and I’m excited to be starting a regular garden update to share more of what happens in our growing spaces across the year.

The Farm has a long history rooted in community action, and the garden continues that tradition by offering spaces for food growing, biodiversity, education and participation in the middle of the city.
Across the site, each garden area has its own character. Our main garden is the heart of our productive growing space, with raised beds, edible crops, herbs, flowers and seasonal planting. The Eco Garden offers more opportunity to explore habitats, wildlife and environmental learning. The orchard brings fruit trees, blossom and a longer view of the seasons, while the ponds provide an important habitat for wildlife and a quieter place to observe The Farm’s natural life more closely.

Together, these spaces help make The Farm a living landscape where people can learn, volunteer, grow food, connect with nature and experience the changing seasons.
As spring begins, the garden is slowly coming back to life. We’re preparing beds, sowing seeds and looking out for those first signs of new growth. It feels like the right moment to start sharing more of the garden with you.

March has been all about the garden waking up again, we are sowing lots of seeds, including lettuce, radish, peas, tomatoes, chillies and have already planted broad beans, onions and kale into our production beds. The produce will be an important part of our educational work and be available to the public to purchase and take home to enjoy.

I’m looking forward to taking you along with us.
P.S. We love recycling old yoghurt pots, toilet roll tubes, trays and used plastic plant pots. If you’re clearing out, please pop along to the farm to donate and we will reuse them.
