Farm Futures: Upcoming Adventures in March 2024!

Farm Futures: Upcoming Adventures in March 2024!

Greetings Farm Friends!

As we venture closer towards spring, I, Trevor the Turkey have lots of wonderful news to share with you. From all the happenings in February to the upcoming announcements for March, let me tell you The Tea!

Some highlights from February 2024!

February was jam packed with activities, visitors and The Farm has recently had a glow up!

Thanks to Southwestern Railways we waved goodbye to our old perimeter fencing and replaced it with stylish jet black railings to compliment out new entrance. Our birds also have a lovely new aviary to call home and last week we welcomed two love birds to join them!

We were honoured to be a part of The British Horse Society’s Celebration of Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre’s 35th Anniversary. Princess Anne embarked on a morning visit journey to Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre. Venturing into the heart of local stables that bring the joy of horse riding to disabled children and adults, HRH the Princess Royal took a thrilling tour on Thursday (8 February). Witnessing the evolution of the stables over three decades, Princess Anne, with radiant enthusiasm, shared nostalgic moments during her encounter with our CEO, Monica Tyler.

The Farms Pancake Party was a huge success with our café selling out of the scrumptious treats!  During half term we also hosted a cuddle corner for everyone to meet our small animals, and our education department smashed it with the Camp Green Horizons and Conservation Club programmes which welcomed many children to The Farm to foster their curiosity, build confidence and offered them an amazing hands on experience.

Finally, we hosted our first ever Murder Mystery event and who turned out to be the wicked culprit, Luna? None other than our very own CEO Monica Tyler! Lots of fun was had by all who attended as they honed their detective skills to solve the crime. Many more exciting events are planned for our evening bar, Faith’s Place, so be sure to follow us on social media to hear the news as soon as it’s announced!

SPECIAL EVENTS:

With all the excitement from February, we can’t wait for you to see what we have on offer this March!

In the meantime, we promise you this sensational line up of events and programmes for anyone of any age and ability.

Education!

February was a busy half term here at The Farm, we had a great time working with the Young People of Wandsworth and Lambeth, learning about our environmental impact as part of Camp Green Horizons: Climate Change Week. The children embraced their inner conservationists and learnt lots of ways we can make a difference. Look out for some of their work around our site on our social media.

Thank you to St Walter St John Educational Charity for supporting Camp Green Horizons!

As the weather gets warmer it has been wonderful to welcome lots of school trips to explore The Farm, meet our animals and learn more about where our food comes from, seeing it grown in our garden.

This week, we are excited to be hosting our New Shoots: Employability Programme with the young people of Lambeth, equipping them with useful tools and supporting them to take the next steps in their employability journey.

Thank you to Lambeth Opportunities, Berkley House, Staybridge Suites and The Artisan People for their support in building our programme and Drapers for their funding of the programme.

Conservation Club continues to be a great success with visitors joining in with our sessions, raising awareness of our natural world. This month we made sustainable Valentine’s cards with treasures found in our garden and explored the impact of plastic pollution on our planet. To book March sessions Register HERE!

Thank you to City Bridge Trust for supporting the Conservation Club!

Our Community Garden News!

We are busy planting lots of flowers and veggie seeds in our greenhouse where they stay cosy and safe from any possible frost. Keep an eye out for colourful flowers like daffodils, iris, bluebells, and maybe even some tulips popping up – our farm is going to look like a springtime rainbow!

March is the start of spring, and our garden is slowly waking up with new shoots popping up in all corners of the garden.  And guess what? Our rhubarb is ready to be picked! That means it’s time to enjoy some tasty treats from our garden. So, join us in celebrating the start of a new season with fresh colours and delicious harvests here at Vauxhall City Farm!
