Riding

Our riding stables are the most central in London giving people from all backgrounds the perfect chance to learn to ride. A range of riding lessons are offered for beginner, intermediate, experienced and disabled riders.

At Vauxhall City Farm we offer the opportunity to learn to ride a pony or horse in our BHS and RDA approved riding school without leaving central London. Browse below to see what lessons we offer, or if you’ve already booked then make sure you read our Rider Information Page.

PLEASE NOTE:  Our horses will be out on the summer grass for their holidays from 24th July to 21st August 2017.  Lessons will resume on 25th August.

Our Riding Centre

We’re a bit different from other riding centres, and we’re proud of it. Not only are one of the most central riding centres in London, we are also the only registered RDA centre. Our wonderful horses (meet them here) are all unique, with a wide variety of sizes and temperaments which means we can always find the right horse just for you.

As a BHS approved centre we are committed to promoting high standards of equine welfare, equestrianism and customer service.  Find out here why you should pick a BHS approved centre.

Our stables and arena are set in the heart of Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens and with all of our other animals we can provide a truly rural riding experience without having to leave the city.

Riding Lessons

We offer a wide range of riding lessons for all ages and abilities. Have a look below to see what we can offer you.  Our lessons run Tuesday to Sunday.  Our weight limit is 80k for beginners and 88k for experienced riders.

Riding for the Disabled

Riding offers therapeutic benefits and the chance for riders to achieve their personal goals. As a registered RDA centre, we offer Riding for the Disabled lessons for school groups and individuals.  We also now have an RDA group on Sundays at 9am.

All of our individual lessons, and a few of the weekday children’s groups, are suitable for disabled riders.

Group lessons

Our group lessons take place throughout the week. Have a look at our timetable below to decide which group is best for you. All lessons last 45 minutes, except our Tuesday and Wednesday children’s groups which are 30 minutes. The weekday children’s groups are suitable for those on lead rein, just off lead rein and learning to trot.

Individual lessons

If you’re looking for something a little more personal we’re able to provide individual lessons for adults and children of all abilities. Please note that  Sunday lessons can only be booked from the prior Tuesday and availability is limited.

Have a Go lessons

Suitable for those who have never ridden but always wanted to have a go.  All ages 4+ welcome, why not bring the whole family and make it a joint experience.  The perfect way to learn to ride! Available on Sunday afternoon at 2pm for 45 minutes.

Own a Pony days

Would you like to ‘own’ your favourite pony for the day?

Children aged 6-16 can learn to care and look after a pony; grooming, feeding, mucking out, tacking up, stable management lectures and lots of riding. There will even be a rosette to take home.

The day runs several times a year during school holidays.  The next ones will be on 23rd and 24th August 2017, from 9:30-3pm for a full day.  Half days run from 9:30-12:15 or 12:45-3pm.

Contact the riding team for more information

£70 per full day, £40 for half a day.
