Sheep Show Success!

While everyone on the farm was beavering away for three weeks in preparation for the Vauxhall City Farm Zone at this year’s Lambeth Country Show, a second big event was taking up every spare minute – though spare becomes a very rare thing at this time of year – the Sheep Show, organised by Brymills Livestock Enterprises at the Lambeth Country Show.sheep washing & training

Staff and volunteers spent hours washing and trimming the sheep to look just right for the show, training them to behave and stand and walk to show off their best attributes and finally showing them across the two days of the Lambeth Country Show weekend to great success.

Our flock of Soay sheep and Shetland sheep for the second year in a row were placed very highly across the Primitive Sheep Section with Anise, a Shetland lamb from this year, following in her mother’s footsteps (Clover won Champion Primitive Sheep in 2014) taking home the Reserve Champion rosette on Saturday.

Rob McLaren wins Reserve Champion Handler
On Sunday, this year’s lambs were placed in the Pure Bred Lamb category (2nd, 3rd and 4th), our volunteers and staff competed for Best Handler 2015, answering questions on sheep breeds and behaviour, showing their general handling skills and of course, showing their sheep and we are proud to say that Rob McLaren – the Assistant Farmyard Supervisor – came first in the Over 16 class for the second year in a row and then went on to win Reserve Champion Handler.

Our Shetland sheep finished off the day by coming second in the Ewe & Lamb class and got to walk in the Grand Parade in the Main Arena of Brockwell Park, led by our volunteers.
