Maddy Buttling

One of our favourite things is artists coming down to visit and get inspired by Vauxhall City Farm. Let’s meet Maddy!

Maddy is a 20 year old student, doing a BA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, just across the river from the farm.

Maddy makes small scale oil paintings, depicting domestic scenes, often with a focus on animals as a subject and we came across her painting of Tom the alpaca, in a shower on instagram and absolutely fell in love!

Maddy also takes pet portrait comissions and you can contact her, if you would like to hire her for this service.

Maddy was born and raised in London and expresses her love for animals through painting. She has a puppy called Frida and a hamster called Pierre, and found Vauxhall City Farm by walking past one day and deciding to come inside and sign up as a volunteer. She is inspired by the goats, however her favourite animal at the farm is, of course, Tom the alpaca!

Maddy generally works in oil paint on wood panels and currently one of her favourite things to work on, is a series of paintings imagining her dog as an icon, which she started after the death of her dog in 2018.

We are hoping to run painting workshops at the farm with Maddy later on in the year.

Follow Maddy on Instagram for more of her work! (maddybuttling.art)
